5 Great Things to Do and See in Wellesley Massachusetts
Just a thirty minute car ride from Boston, Wellesley, MA is a beautifully situated, New England town with a rich history, charming architecture, quaint shopping centers, terrific schools (K-Universities) and a myriad of town squares and outdoor parks. In this article, we will highlight five great things to do in Wellesley.
1. Visit the Davis Museum at Wellesley College
The Davis Museum at Wellesley College grips the imagination, offering visitors more than 11,000 works of art from around the world. The museum’s vast collection of artwork includes paintings, sculptures, photographs, and other media forms. It also offers a variety of educational programs and exhibitions throughout the year. So, give it a try and tell us how you like it.
2. Walk around the Wellesley College Campus
“Wellesley College, outside of Boston, Massachusetts, is one of the most beautiful campuses in North America”. This quote comes directly from the College’s “about us” page and we couldn’t agree more. “The College’s 500 acres includes a private lake, a golf club, groves of conifers and hardwoods, and winding paths through open meadows.” Indeed, a plethora of choices (things to do) for those visitors that want to see it all.
3. Take a hike at the Wellesley Trails
If you are looking for adventure and some exercise, Wellesley has a total of 47 miles of trails (long and short), 29 of which are marked to form an interconnecting network. Long trails connect open spaces across different parts of the town whereas shorter woodland trails allow you to explore Wellesley’s conservation lands. Some of the most popular trails include the Crosstown Trail, the Guernsey Trail, and the Brook Path. So what are you waiting for? Get out there and start hiking.
4. Visit the Charles River Link Trail
The Charles River link trail is a trail among trails. This 16-mile regional trail abuts one of the most scenic parts of the Charles River. Eventually it will provide a connection between the Bay Circuit Trail in Medfield and downtown Boston. This diverse and spectacular suburban trail, opened in June of 2009, connects 26 open space jewels in six towns – Newton, Wellesley, Needham, Natick, Dover and Medfield.
5. Explore the Wellesley Historical Society
Founded in 1925, the Wellesley Historical Society permits visitors to travel back in time to learn about and enjoy the town’s rich history, people, etc. It’s an education journey featuring exhibits on the town’s founding, its growth and development, and its notable residents. Visitors can also take guided tours of historic homes and buildings in the town.
